Our Story

It has been our dream to start a church in this area for several years. Getting to watch and experience God’s hand at work in bringing this dream to reality has been incredible. Our story actually began many years ago as God started working in our hearts while we served on various mission trips. As we looked around us, we realized we had a mission field right here in our own city. Naturally our question became, “What can we do to begin reaching the people from various nations that have come to live in KC?” We began by offering Bible studies and tutoring at a local apartment complex and the ministry grew from there.

Our next step was to begin having services on Sunday nights at the LBC campus with translators in Spanish, Russian and at times, Amharic, Arabic and Haitian Creole. We felt a need to expand our ministry even more so we moved to Amanuel Ethiopian Church on 75th Street in Shawnee, KS. This move allowed us to get even more involved within the community around us. It has been our prayer that we could reach the ever growing multi-ethnic community that is all around us. It has been our desire to get a glimpse of what is described in Revelation 7:9, “A vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language” worshiping the Lord together.

In 2017, God opened that door for us to be sent out as a church plant. We are commissioned to reach out to all people in our community, regardless of where they may be from. With that as our goal, we chose our name, Community Impact Church, to better reflect that ideal. God has given us the opportunity to provide discipleship and a worship service on Sunday morning; children and youth discipleship both on Sunday mornings and on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Small groups meet at members’ houses throughout the week.

In September, 2019, we moved into our new location at 75th and Nieman Rd in Shawnee, KS. This has enabled us to have a greater presence in the community and allowed us to offer more exciting ministry opportunities for you.

On September 10, 2023, the church voted unanimously to affirm Fitsum Hawaz as the Pastor and Edwin Aquino as the Associate Pastor of the church.

Our mission is to love God, love others, impact our community and change the world. If this sounds like a church you would like to be a part of, come join us this Sunday!
