Saturday Ramblings

Saturday Ramblings

Good morning church and happy Saturday.

We will continue our series in Colossians tomorrow plus we have some baptisms scheduled.  It is going to be an exciting day so I hope you can join us.

Please continue praying for those on the prayer list that we send out.  Cameron Elliott’s surgeries on his back and his ankle went well.  Abby said that Nick is doing well with physical therapy.

Yesterday, I was out and about running errands when I was reminded yet again of how many people ignore yield signs.  As you travel down the highway, the cars seeking to join you in the merriment have a sign that is supposed to remind them that the cars already on the main road have the right-of-way.   Also, if you are exiting the main thoroughfare, they are to let you do so.  That is actually what yield means. However, most often, motorists just blunder their way onto the highway with little or no regard that you exist.  They have an expectation that you will get out of their way by switching lanes (even if you are in heavy traffic) or by slamming on your brakes to open up a space for them.  Of course, we should do what we can to accommodate other drivers.  That actually makes the traffic flow more smoothly.  However, the signs exist and do serve a purpose. One of my personal favorites is when someone ignores the yield sign, pulls out in front of you, and then proceeds to putz down the highway going 15 mph below the speed limit.  Another are the yield signs in the satanically inspired roundabouts that have been installed in numerous locations in our area.  Heaven forbid if you should actually slow down or stop to allow a driver to proceed that has the right-of-way.  If you do, you are a sitting duck.  Multiple cars will take advantage of that and will race through the circle of death ahead of you.  In reality, the way that people drive is often a reflection on their own selfishness and their me first attitude.

As I thought about this, I am reminded that this is true in our spiritual lives as well.  Through the Holy Spirit and through God’s Word, we are given direction for our lives.  Sometimes we ignore that and are unwilling to yield to the guidance they provide.  We are instructed to not yield to temptation and yet, like a motorist on a mission, we blunder on.  Sometimes honking and muttering when we don’t get our way.  God’s Word is telling us to stop and yet we blow through that sign or red light, reasoning that there was no one else around so why stop?  Do we heed the caution signs, or do we throw caution to the wind?  Many of the road signs could be used as reminders in our daily walk.  One-way, wrong way, danger ahead, dead end, proceed with caution, slow, do not pass are a few.  At some of the crosswalks there is a positive reminder for us to remember.  It simply says, “Walk with light.”

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5-7, ESV).

Be careful out there, it is a dangerous world.  Allow God to guide you as you journey down the road of life.  Whatever you do, don’t ignore the “signs” He gives you.

From our neighborhoods to the nations,

Pastor Larry
