Saturday Ramblings

Saturday Ramblings

Good morning and happy Saturday.  I hope that you had a good week.  Tomorrow, we continue our series in the book of Colossians.  Pastor Edwin will be preaching so I hope that you can come join us.

The other day, Michelle and I were at that luxury retailer known as Dollar Tree.  I always enjoy shopping there, looking for bargains, calling for price checks.  If you look hard enough you will find valuable items that are worth at least 65 cents.  Anyway, as we wandered up and down the aisles, feasting our eyes on the things of this world, we drifted apart.  I went down one aisle and Michelle went down another.  Similar to when we are casing a joint.  After grabbing a few items that I could no longer live without, I turned the corner and continued my quest for the ultimate bargain.  As I meandered along, I spotted Michelle out of the corner of my eye.  I made my way down the aisle, still focused on the plethora of eye candy adorning the shelves.  Without looking, I tossed my new-found bargains into Michelle’s basket and started to search for more.  When suddenly I was drawn from my daze by a strange woman’s voice saying, “Excuse me.”  The tone in which she said it was not conducive to the idyllic surroundings that we were in.  Breaking free from my near coma like state, I looked in her direction.  What I discovered was that a lady with a haircut just like Michelle’s was standing there holding the items I had just tossed into her basket.  And she was not amused one bit.  She thrust them in my direction while I tried to apologize while laughing my head off.  Neither of which seemed to brighten her day.  About that time, Michelle came around the corner and asked what I was laughing about.  I shared with her briefly my tale of mistaken identity.  She then told the other lady, “oh my gosh, we have the same haircut.”  Even that didn’t bring a smile to the stern-faced woman still glaring at me.  With that heart-warming Hallmark channel type ending, we went our separate ways.

So, what can be learned from a near fatal incident like this?

Materialism leads people astray.

Pay attention to what you are doing.  Don’t be so distracted in life.

Don’t forget who your wife (or husband) is.

Try to enjoy life.  Laugh once in a while.

Don’t take yourself so seriously.  We all do dumb things.

May God bless you in all ways.

From our neighborhoods to the nations,

Pastor Larry
