Saturday Rambling

Saturday Rambling

Good morning and happy Saturday.  I hope that you have had a great week.  Guys, don’t forget that we have a men’s breakfast at 8 am this morning.  Should be a good time of food, fellowship and a time in God’s Word.

A couple of months ago I saw a story about the last remaining Blockbuster Video store operating in the U.S.  Most of us remember those things.  A lot of us would go there to pick up a video or two, some popcorn and even some over-priced candy.  It seems like we wandered around the store for hours with the kids trying to pick out a movie that we hadn’t seen, or at least hadn’t seen 27 times.  For a while, there were Blockbuster Video stores everywhere.  Thousands of them.  At its peak, there were over 9,000 stores around the world.  There was a period when a new store was opening every single day. And then technology began to change. Instead of having to rent or buy an actual copy, you could download it.  Now, we have Netflix and a host of others to watch movies ad nauseum.  We no longer need those familiar blue and yellow stores to find a copy of the latest releases.

Blockbuster is just one of a myriad of things that has come and gone.  Aren’t you thankful we no longer have dial-up internet?  What about when AOL sent practically everyone in the country a disc so we could get online?  Do you remember going to Radio Shack for batteries and supplies? Remember when the IBM Selectric typewritten was the most revolutionary word processor we had ever seen?  Do you miss the days of having someone page you and then you had to find a pay phone to call them back?  Anyway, things change.  Sadly, this isn’t limited to just technology.  Our society, our country has changed.  Things are not like they once were.  In some areas that is good.  In other areas, not so much.  Sometimes it seems as though things are changing so rapidly that it is hard to keep up.  It can even be unsettling. Fortunately, there is something that is always constant, that is God Himself.  He was, He is, and He always will be.  Praise God that we can rely upon Him as we walk through this ever-changing world in which we live in.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)

God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind.
Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19)

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”  (Revelation 1:8)

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true one. We are in the true one—that is, in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (1 John 5:20)

From our neighborhoods to the nations,

Pastor Larry
