That’s right, it is Saturday morning already. I’ve got to tell you that when my alarm went off at 5 am my first response was not “oh good, another day is already here.” I would suspect that there are many of you that are still in bed right now. Some may have looked at the clock and immediately covered their heads with their blankets. A few of you have no intentions of getting out for the next 3 or 4 hours. And I don’t blame you. There are some weeks that are more exhausting than others. There are some periods of life that are more challenging than others. That is a good reminder of why we need to be in prayer for each other. Also, it is why we need to remain tethered to God’s Word. It is good to have some key verses in your life that you can turn to in order to remind you of why you do what you do. For me, 1 Corinthians 15:58 is one such verse.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Cor. 15:58, CSB)
- When your to-do list seems a bit overwhelming.
- When someone questions your motives.
- When you receive sad news.
- When people ignore your advice to their own hurt.
- When you deal with tragedy or heartbreak.
- When life seems like you are running like a hamster on a wheel.
All of these, and a myriad of other things, can leave you tired. Fortunately, God’s Word reminds us that our labor for Him, what we do in service for Him, is not in vain. He is at work. He is using all those that are willing to help advance His kingdom. Sometimes, in the midst of the busyness and craziness of the world in which we live in, we can lose sight of that.
Fortunately, there were a lot of good things that are happening all around us. A lot of people serving the Lord, seeking to advance His kingdom. The Word of God is presented in a variety of ways throughout each week. There are many people that are living for the Lord. People are making decisions for Christ. The Gospel is being proclaimed. Christ is being exalted!
So, what can we do in times like these? We pray. We ask God to guide us. We consider all the ways that God is at work around us. We celebrate the victories we have seen. And we heed this reminder:
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Cor. 15:58, CSB)
From our neighborhoods to the nations,
