Saturday Rambling

Saturday Rambling

Good morning and happy Saturday from Phoenix.  It was nearly 2 weeks ago when a group of us left KC for our mission trip to Mexico. I am grateful for Crystal, Robin, Tia, Todd and Michelle going on the trip.  It was an incredible time. I posted a lot on Facebook if you want to check out all that we did. Last Monday, the team headed back to KC while Michelle and I stayed behind.  On their way home, their flight got delayed in Hermosillo. When they got to Phoenix, by the time they went through customs and security, they literally made it to the plane with 2 minutes to spare. Then they had to get back off the plane since a crew member was sick. After further delay, they finally made it to KC. On Friday, Michelle and I headed to the airport in Hermosillo.  After multiple delays, we are finally in the air. Of course, our connecting flight is long gone so we will spend the night in Phoenix and fly out on Saturday.

Through the years, I have had the privilege of going on many mission trips. It is crazy how many of them we have had travel issues on the way home. It happened so often that we began to kind of expect it. I think that maybe Satan likes for it to happen so that the difficulties are the last memory you have of the trip.  I don’t know, maybe it is so you won’t be as eager to go on the next one or that you lose sight of the great things that you saw God do.

But isn’t that like most things in life? Even when God is doing great things all around us, we can sometimes get distracted by the challenges, the difficulties, the let-downs and the times when things don’t do the way we wanted them to.  If we allow our focus to drift toward those things then we let Satan have the victory.  Perhaps that is one reason why we are instructed to take every thought captive. Hold on to what is good and dismiss what is not. The old saying still holds true: count your blessings one by one.

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise – dwell on these things.  Philippians 4:8
