Good morning and happy Saturday. Put on your sunscreen and try to get outside and enjoy this warm spring morning ☹. Don’t despair, it will get warmer, then colder, then warmer…Yep, it’s KC.
A week ago, I had the opportunity to go with Andy and Bev to see the movie Jesus Revolution. Wow was it good. If you haven’t seen it yet, I would highly recommend it. It tells the story of the hippies (and many others) coming to Christ in California. It tells of when Pastor Chuck Smith started allowing the hippies and outsiders to come into the church he was pastoring. Obviously, not everyone was thrilled about that. Sadly, you still see glimpses of that when you have a multi-ethnic church like Community Impact. Another person that is primarily featured in the movie is Greg Laurie. It was fascinating to learn more of his background and see his story unfold. This was especially meaningful to both Andy and I since we each received Christ while listening to Greg Laurie on the radio. I remember hearing part of Andy’s testimony when we were preparing for a mission trip. I was like, “What?”, “Wait a minute, that’s my testimony too.” It is amazing how God works and how He brings our lives together. One highlight for me occurred several years back. Thanks to Pastor Steve’s extensive network of friends, I was able to meet Greg Laurie in person. I had the chance to briefly tell him my story and to thank him for his ministry. In a similar way, I got to thank Dick and Shirley Bott for their ministry. I was listening to Greg Laurie on Bott Radio when I got saved. A great backstory to that was that I had been listening to another pastor’s show at that timeslot when it suddenly went off the air. The radio station replaced it with Greg Laurie, so I started listening to him. I later discovered the previous show was pulled due to a moral failure on the part of the pastor. What I did not know until I talked with the Bott’s that day was that Dick Bott was the one the made the decision to pull it off of the air immediately. Since he knew Greg Laurie, he asked him if he wanted the spot. Again, it amazing how things work in life, and how God uses them to reach you. I am grateful that I had the chance to thank some of the people directly involved in the radio broadcast that God used to reach me. If you haven’t done so, I would encourage you to reach out to those that were instrumental in your salvation and/or in your spiritual life. Thank them for the difference that they made in your life. I can assure you that most people will be thrilled to hear of how God used them to impact your life.
Lastly, if you haven’t shared your testimony with anyone lately, I would encourage you to do so. Take some time and reflect back on what was going on and how you came to know Christ as your Lord and Savior. Sometimes, we get so busy in life, we don’t think back to what our lives were like or the difference that Christ has made in our lives. Try it sometime, it just might inspire you once again in your walk with Jesus.
Be blessed and have a great week.
Larry
