Good morning church. I hope that you are doing well, staying healthy and doing what you can to avoid this virus. Praise God that many that have been on our prayer list are feeling better. Please continue to pray for Irene’s mom Bunny. She is in the hospital with Covid-19, plus the pneumonia that goes with it. Please take a moment to say a prayer for her.
The other day brother Jeff and I went to the repair shop to pick up the church bus. As we approached the door, I noticed the little sign that said, “Watch your step.” I told Jeff that that was really good advice for life. At our apartment complex, there are many people that have dogs. I personally like dogs and tolerate some cats. I am not sure why you would want to have a dog that is the size of a small horse living in an apartment but that’s their choice. Most of the owners do a really good job. However, there are some that must get distracted and forget to pick up the landmines their beloved pets leave behind. Therefore, when you walk across certain grassy areas, the admonition to watch your step is very good advice.
Far more seriously, in this era of the Covid pandemic, we need to watch every step we make. With the virus being so contagious, it makes you think twice about everything you touch. Just to get out of our building, I have to touch our door handle to open the door. I have to touch the other side in order to lock it with the key fob. Then I have three doors to pass through to exit the building. Two of them have push bars but one has a handle. And that’s if I don’t take the petrie dish known as our elevator. Of course, if you go to a place like Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club, you must consider everything you touch plus all of the people that are wandering around. Some seem to be on a mission to get supplies while others are kind of wandering around aimlessly impeding the traffic flow a great deal 😊. Friday, the CDC issued a recommendation that everyone that goes out should wear a cloth covering over their mouth and nose (not to be confused with a mask) to help slow the spread. The guidelines for social distancing, washing your hands, covering your cough or sneeze, are all reminders to watch your step. Why? Because this stuff is very dangerous.
If you think about, the Bible is filled with reminders for us to watch our step. There are guidelines in there about health, safety, disease, nutrition, finances, appropriate relationships, etc. God, our Creator, has a lot of practical advice for how we should live our lives. God really does want what is best for us. He makes many rules that if followed will keep us safe. This is certainly true in the spiritual realm. Sin is every bit as dangerous and contagious as the Covid-19 virus. In fact, it has spread to all mankind. God’s Word informs us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sadly, the spiritual mortality rate of sin is 100%. “For the wages of sin is death.” However, in one of the greatest proclamations ever exclaimed, we learn, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is why those of us that have trusted Christ should praise God with our whole hearts. We were living with a death sentence from a seemingly incurable disease. But Jesus became our cure. Praise the Lord!!!
One thing that we need to keep in mind is that even as Christians, we are still susceptible to sin. Even though your salvation is secure, this is still damaging to your relationship with the Lord. We should do all we can to avoid it. We must watch our step because temptation is all around us. In this time of stress and uncertainty, you just might be vulnerable. Please be careful. Watch your step.
7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Peter 5:7-9)
You are loved and prayed for,
Larry
