Saturday Ramblings

Saturday Ramblings

Good morning church,

I hope that you had a great week.  The team made it back safely from the OCC trip to Dallas and it sounds like they had a good week serving with Samaritan’s Purse.  What a blessing it is to have a church made up of people that love serving and seeking to see the Gospel advanced.

BTW, another opportunity is coming up locally. On December 19th, we will be having Christmas parties for the kids and their families that we minister to on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. There are 3 ways for you to help out this year: adopt an entire family; drop off of a $10 or $20 gift card to Walmart, Target or Aldi or take an angel off the angel tree at the church and purchase the gift that is listed on it. If you would like to adopt a family, please let us know by this Saturday, the 5th, and we will get you set up. All gift cards and gifts need to be brought to the church by Sunday, December 13th. We will distribute them on Saturday, the 19th. Contact robin@communityimpactchurch.com or larry@communityimpactchurch.com for more information.  Thanks for any help that you can provide.

The other day I was scrolling through a news feed and saw a shocking headline.  It said that Dollar Tree was recalling like 150,000 candles.  The reason why?  They are fire hazards.  I know, who would have ever thought that a candle could be dangerous.  Essentially you have a cylindrical tube of wax with an open flame on top of it.  Of course, the wax gets hot and become like molten lava, but that isn’t that big of a deal either.  Unless, of course, it falls over or is placed near anything that is flammable.  By the way, did you know the blue part of the flame is around 2500 degrees Fahrenheit?

Later in the week I saw a headline on the TV that was talking about a basketball player.  It said that he had tested negative for Covid after being scratched on Tuesday.  It left me wondering if he had gotten scratched during a basketball game or something.  I also wondered if people are getting Covid by getting scratched.  Does that mean we need to wear a mask and long sleeves too?  As I contemplated the significance of this earth changing event, the TV finally added a little context so that their lead in actually made sense.  Apparently, he had a false positive earlier in the week so he was scratched from a game.  What a relief.  I was starting to try to find one of those outfits like a beekeeper wears or maybe someone that fences (the sport,  not home improvement).

Then on Friday evening I saw another interesting story.  It said that a Delta IV heavy rocket launched a secret spy satellite today.  Hmmm.  If they announce it on international news along with video footage, is it still considered secret?  It seems to me that if you know the date and time something is launched into orbit then someone could probably track it as it circles the planet.

The three news blubs I mentioned were a little confusing to me (and maybe to a few others).  Sometimes things need to be a bit more clear.  Thankfully, there was a news story, an announcement that was crystal clear and it still impacts the world to this day.  In fact, it is the reason we celebrate Christmas.  We recognize that a Savior was born and through Him we can be forgiven of our sins.  It is the Good News that everyone needs to hear and believe.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (Luke 2:8-11).

Let us never get tired of telling others the Good News.  There is a Savior and He is Christ the Lord.

Love God. Love others. Impact our community. Change the world.

Pastor Larry
