Saturday Ramblings

Saturday Ramblings

Good morning and happy Saturday.  I hope that you had a good week.  May God bless you as you seek to serve Him.

Today, the ladies are helping with the Harvester’s food distribution at Comanche Elementary.  After that, we have the Faith and Blue event in the parking lot by the church.  It gives us an opportunity to support the local police and be part of a community event.  May God give us opportunities to be a witness for Him today!

The other day I was at the church when I saw Big Mike walking by.  I immediately went and got his attention so that I could talk with him.  I had been looking for him for the last month or so and had not seen him.  I discovered that he had been really sick with covid for a while and a lot of other things had been going on.  He had been desperately waiting for a check to show up and then he discovered that someone that stolen it.  We talked for a while and I gave him a couple of ideas to pursue about recovering his lost funds.  I gave him a little money we had at the church for him and offered him so food for lunch.  After I prepared his lunch to go he headed out to Dollar General.  As he did, he noticed a guy down on his luck sitting on the bench.  I saw him stop to talk with the man.  After a couple of minutes, Big Mike handed his lunch over to the man.  When Mike came back to the door at the church, I thought he might want to get some food for himself.  Rather, he told me that the guy hadn’t eaten for a while and asked if he could have some more food to give him. I gave him some more and off he went once again.

As I watched all of this transpire, I couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of one person that is pretty much broke and in need taking the time to help someone that is in worse shape than he was.  It was one of the times of someone paying it forward almost immediately.  And yet, it wasn’t the type that makes the news with rich people paying for the lattes for the SUV behind them because the person ahead of them sprung for their caramel macchiato.  This was a man in need that saw someone in greater need and was willing to give up what little he had to help.  What a picture of true generosity.  What a picture of Christ.  It reminds me of the widow that Jesus commended in Luke 21.

1He looked up and saw the rich dropping their offerings into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow dropping in two tiny coins.“I tell you the truth,” He said. “This poor widow has put in more than all of them. For all these people have put in gifts out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”  (Luke 21:1-4)

Let us seek to use what we have been entrusted with for the glory and honor of Christ.

From our neighborhoods to the nations,

Pastor Larry
